Ever since I was little I enjoyed arts and crafts. So, it probably was no surprise to my folks that I would pick up something crafty in the future. But, the whole beading frenzy was hot when I was in grade 4, so that's when I started to have fun with beads. Actually, I made my first sale in grade 6 (a daisy chain necklace & matching bracelet) for a good $5! Hey, it was good candy money!
What are some of the things that inspire you?
Life is inspiring to me. Mostly because you can interpret life in so many ways and it's subjective, and thus, it's constantly evolving. Happiness also inspires me because much like life, it's also subjective and subject to change. Everyone wants to be happy and when people find little treasures like jewelry it puts a smile on their face. So, from this inspiration, I like to create jewelry and accessories that allow people to express their personality without having to speak. Everyone is capable of making a statement.
What do you think would be the perfect project?
I would have to say...accessories makeover. You know how they have those ambush makeovers. Well, getting someone totally revamped and dolled up in rockin' accessories would be so awesome. Just ambush a random female and accessorize her! I'm sure she'd love it. What female doesn't love accessories?!
How long have you been selling on Etsy, and how long have you done what you do?
I'm fairly new to Etsy (just under a month old, so my shop is still a baby). But as I said above, my first sale was in grade 6 for candy money. I'm not sure if that's totally legit! In grade 12, I needed Christmas money, so I patrolled the halls advertising my goods (not those goods). It was a hit, so I continued thereafter.
Selling your work on Etsy, or online in general, can mean a lot of competition. Are you intiminated by this? Why or why not?
I do think there is competition. However, I believe that this competition is within yourself. You have to constantly out-do yourself and make your work better each and every time. In terms of competition outside of one's self, I don't think that really exists. Why? Because everyone interprets things differently on some level and so, they have a different way of expressing themselves in what they do. The outcome of each person's projects are completely individual.
